Powers of the Crown/Hegemony

Hegemonies are in effect temporary effects that nevertheless have very powerful game-changing implications. To achieve a Hegemony, you must achieve a specific goal before your opponents, and you may activate each hegemony only once per game. There are twelve Hegemonies that you can obtain. The most common ways you can obtain this is by either killing more units than your enemy, or by researching specific research goals before they do. Take note that Hegemonies need to charge up before they may used, and the more Hegemony powers that you use, the longer the charge-up time for subsequent Hegemonies that you may have achieved.

List of Hegemonies

Minor

  • Civil - Research Urban Corporation. 10 Peasant Levy spawn around your capital (in the case of Poland, this is a city with a Senate).
  • Ducal - Research Feudalism. Peasant Levy units get a +2 armour bonus within the radius of a general.
  • Urban - Research Republic. All ships gain regeneration, increased if you control any Citrus patches.
  • Royal - Research Monarchy. Your Monarch temporarily gains the ability to generate one Nobles'Court (is killed upon use).
  • Bourgeois - Research Legalism. Units gain +100% Attrition resistance.
  • Imperial - Research Absolutism. Mmercenaries can be created instantly (semi-mercenary units like Landsknechte are affected).

Major

  • Military - be the first to obtain a 100-kill lead. Allows you to force all players into an armistice.
  • Commercial - research all 7 Commerce technologies. Grants the ability to make all units and structures heal for a while.
  • Territory - be the first to control 7 or more cities in order to be able to prevent your defeat if you lose your capitals. The Palace District wonder increases the timer countdown for this Hegemony by 200%.
  • (unique for Hindu factions) - Ashwamedha: is unlocked by researching Ashwamedha. Unlocks the Ashwamedha prerogative which in effect temporarily blocks other players from using Prerogatives, and also stops other players' Prerogatives from charging.

Prerogatives require a Senate to be used. Any Senate, even those you have captured, will allow you to do so but there is always a cooldown period before you can use another ability.

As a victory condition

Whenever a Hegemony's Prerogative is achieved, you will get Hegemony points. Minor ones generate 1 each, while the large ones generate 2 (whereas Ashwamedha's own ability generates 3). The game is won the moment a player reaches a minimum of 10 points.
